The Innovation Committee met today, November 16, 2016, from 3:30 until 4:40pm in the PAHS Library. The agenda is posted below.
Superintendent McKinney gave an overview of the process using the FAQ published by the Texas Association of School Boards: https://www.tasb.org/Services/Legal-Services/TASB-School-Law-eSource/Governance/Districts-of-Innovation.aspx.
The committee split into three groups. Each group reviewed four innovation plans adopted by Texas public school districts (a total of 12 plans were reviewed). During the review, the groups discussed the exemptions that the districts adopted and how that exemption might benefit Port Aransas ISD. After the small groups finished their reviews, each group reported their findings to the entire committee.
Next steps are to consult with school attorneys, TASB, and administrators from other school districts regarding the exemptions that PAISD may choose to adopt to determine any negative impact on the district (such as funding, accountability, etc.).
The notes from today's meeting are being compiled and will be posted on this website soon.
