Tech Prep Registration
Thursday, December 11th, 2008 | Author: leif

Ms. Sonnier has requested that all web mastery students register with Tech Prep.

Tech-Prep offers public school students a first-chance to achieve academic, technical, and workplace skills that prepare for higher education and employment. Tech-Prep programs, cooperatively developed by secondary and post-secondary educators, along with business/industry partners, are linked through the articulation process to reduce unnecessary duplication of course content.

These programs consist of four years of secondary school and two years of post-secondary education that contain a common core of required proficiency in mathematics, science, communications and technologies, and provide opportunities for transfer to baccalaureate degree-granting institutions, when appropriate.

All students have access to state-approved Tech-Prep programs offered by their high school.

Cold Front & Electrical Power
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 | Author: admin

The cold front blew in last night around 7 PM. With it came several interruptions in electrical power which can sometimes wreak a bit of havoc among our computers here at school. Last night was no exception. The Marquee server (that serves the billboard out front) did not come back up. I also lost web services to a student web server. Recovery is in progress after coffee.

We’ll be working with a simple database this week. You are asked to set up a baisc project folder and post some information about dadtabases. You will then go to our shared database http://dorado.paisd.net/db900 and add 25 entries. We can then look at how a database works.

File Types
Wednesday, December 03rd, 2008 | Author: leif

There are so many types of computer files it’s almost impossible to know them all, but there are several with which you should be familiar. You should also understand what a file type extention does. On project 10 you will publish a table to show 50 file types and with which programs they are associated.

Please include some common file types in your table including: .doc .ppt .txt .gif .bmp .jpg .png .asp .html .htm .cgi .flv .pdf .avi .mov .wav .mp3 .au. Make a list of fifty and answer the question “what are these and what purpose do they serve?”

Electrical Storm
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Author: leif

After the electrical nightmare of early Saturday morning and the failure of the student web server “Mobydick” things are getting back to normal. I had to alias another server to the moby ip number and configure secondary DNS for the school district just to keep things flowing smoothly. I was then able to extract the crashed server from the rack and splice it open for a closer look. Your web data is on-line on the old server at a new IP number. Try to save your old data and restore it to your new public folder. The address is 10.250.1.3. Buena Suerte.
