Electrical Storm
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Author: leif

After the electrical nightmare of early Saturday morning and the failure of the student web server “Mobydick” things are getting back to normal. I had to alias another server to the moby ip number and configure secondary DNS for the school district just to keep things flowing smoothly. I was then able to extract the crashed server from the rack and splice it open for a closer look. Your web data is on-line on the old server at a new IP number. Try to save your old data and restore it to your new public folder. The address is 10.250.1.3. Buena Suerte.

Llama Image Map
Thursday, October 16th, 2008 | Author: leif

This is pretty ridiculous but maybe it shows the use of image mapping a little clearer.

Here’s a link to a graphic that I added text over. I added the yellow “A B C & D” and the blue header with our friend The Gimp. Then after saving the text in the graphic I used The Gimp’s image mapping tool and created the hyperlinks on the letters that I added. Each click goes to a certain part of the llama. This is along the lines of what I want to teach you. Do the artistic part however you want. The product is an art, not a science. -LJ

Project Five & The Gimp
Thursday, October 16th, 2008 | Author: leif

Project five is open. You’ll be exploring more uses of the Gimp.

Take your time and explore graphics manipulation and the many options and available scripts to edit, alter and create something new. Our goal is not to race through superficially, but rather to gain some depth of knowledge. You will take an individual original graphic and alter and display it in 24 different ways. You will be expected to make an image map as a part of this project too. Image maps are used to code your web page to make certain parts of a picture clickable. You are not really altering the picture, the Gimp will help you generate the code (in text) to make parts of a picture clickable hyperlinks.

Please remember to add two posts per week to your Wordpress. (Please keep it acceptable, Katie, Kelsey, Marina, et. al.).

Try a few out and see if they work well for you. Be advised they may sometimes slow your page loading down a bit.

Select one of your favorite states and build a project around it. The project details are on the project 4 assignment page. Not only will you be continuing your use of html tables, but on this project you will be able to explore the wonders of using The Gimp! You’ll primarily be sizing graphics and placing them into a table. I want all of your graphics for this project to be exactly the same size. - * - Project 4 Details
